Today the students from PLTS began their three week street retreat in San Francisco as a part of the cross-culture training. They are learning about how poverty may look different in different neighborhoods, about their own boundaries and ability to be present in the midst of poverty, mental health issues and addiction.They begin their journey exploring San Francisco's tenderloin district and learning about poverty in the cities most well known district for homeless individuals. For lunch we ate at Glide Memorial, a meal program begun by LGBT homeless youth and a seminary intern that has grown to national fame. Who knows where their journey will lead.
Regardless, I hope they find light in even the deepest darkness.
